Whoever drives in New Zealand will soon become aware of the “rubber snakes” lining the streets. Those are tyre marks the teenagers in powerful pick-up trucks with rear-wheel drive make on the tarred streets. At night they hit the throttle and do burn-outs, leaving the meandering black lines on the tarmac. And many villages boast little car museum, full of vintage cars that once were driven on New Zealand roads. And in cities like Auckland and Christchurch the youngsters like to do drag-races in their Japanese-imported turbo-charged cars. In short, Kiwis are petrol heads and love the sound and grunt of a big block V8 engine. Unfortunately that also means quite a few accidents. The police nowadays tries its best to stop reckless or drunk drivers. But it doesn't always work!
