Malaysia has a National Automobile Policy that tries to boast its own fledging car-industry. The two brands are Perodua and Proton and they combine Malaysian design with Mitsubishi engines. In order to make the industry internationally competitive the government just lowered duties and the cars became 5-7 percent cheaper. Nevertheless are cars very expensive and foreign cars are still subject to high import duties.
