Picture: My friend Alex going for a classical Swiss chocalatey treat: truffes du jour.
I am sure you have realized by now that I am chocoholic and constantly on the lookout for a sweet cacao treats. I being Swiss might explain this strong addiction, as Switzerland is often viewed as the cradle for chocolate treats and that I grew up near a chocolate factory. You might argue that other countries, for example Belgium, are more adventurous and creative when it comes to chocolate inventions and you might be right. But if you look for classical chocolate creations that have stood the test of time, look no further than the legendary Chocolatier Sprüngli on the famous Paradeplatz in Zurich. Sprüngli’s legendary Luxemburgerli, a heavenly light combination of a crisp shell held together by an incredible creamy mousse coming in flavors from Champagne to Amaretto, are even after decades unbeaten for pure oral pleasure. Or have you ever tried the new Grand Cru Truffles? The truffles are made from the world’s best Cacao collected from as far as South America and Africa and for a whopping 18$ for 100g they are not cheap but once you try you will quickly forget about the price. Believe me. And last but not least Sprüngli’s seasonal apricots coated in soft and thin chocolate are the perfect marriage of sweetness with a shot of sour. So go ahead, submit to your temptation and have a bit of pure chocolate nirvana!
PS: Should you crave some extraordinary Swiss chocolate from abroad, Sprüngli also has a mail-order service that ships worldwide.
