You are forgiven to think that Japanese food is all about Sushi and Sashimi! I also bet that you have never heard about Kaiseki, right? But first things first. A few years ago a Japanese citizen who had lived for decades in Widen, about 30 minutes outside of Zurich, got the opportunity to take over a restaurant on a charming hill, outside of Zurich. He rebuilt the restaurant and added a hotel to it. So far nothing unusual you might think, except that the Japanese entrepreneur opened the first authentic Japanese guesthouse in Europe, a Ryokan, with attached authentic Japanese restaurant operated by Japanese master chefs. And the restaurant is not the usual Sushi and Sashimi joint, by far not! Japanese master-chefs, directly flown in from Japan, cook according to the highest standard Japanese cuisine called Kaiseki. Many tools and ingredients directly come from Japan in order to guarantee authenticity and taste. The restaurant even offers a Japanese style restaurant section laid out with Tatami, traditional sliding doors and the waitresses wear silk Kimonos.
When friends and I recently went for dinner the Japanese chef prepared a true symphony of a dinner and a firework of colour and different smells! I could not resist trying the Kobe-style Wagyu Beef which was the tenderest beef I ever had, period! We were frankly amazed and flabbergasted! I have been to many top standard restaurants but this one stands out as it is truly different: new flavours, immaculate presentation and highest quality food.
In short, the restaurant and hotel is a dream come true of a visionary Japanese man. Find out more under this link: http://www.hotel-hasenberg.ch/html/de/home/home.htm
