The “Hanging Heart” by Jeff Koons (yes, the oversized Christmas decoration) was sold last week in New York for a whopping $23.5m. In the light that the equity markets are tanking and the US economy is sputtering, not a bad price! The art market remains buoyant it seems. Rumours have it that the legendary hedge funds manager Steven A. Cohen bought a work by Francis Bacon for $45.9m. Should you feel a pinch because the sheer amount of money paid, console yourself with the fact that possession and attachment to possession is a straight and effective way to suffering.
