Zurich as other bigger Swiss cities have experienced a big influx of highly-skilled workers from Germany, England, the US and other countries. After staying for a while these newcomers tend to look for a living space to buy. Particularly foreigners from Anglo-Saxon countries prefer to buy apartments than rent it while the Swiss traditionally prefer to rent. But now another change in the way of living is about to happen: with many elderly people retiring and moving into smaller apartments, many single houses not so close to bigger cities are up for sale. At the same time younger people between 30 and 40 years, according to a study by Credit Suisse, prefer to rent a more upscale apartment or buy one. I can see this trend among some of my friends who just upgraded to bigger and more luxurious apartments. The result is that many single houses built in the 70ies experience a drop in price of up to 30 percent. So much about houses being a lasting investment!
Do you know the reason why Swiss ppl tendence to rent an appartment not buying?
The price of the real estate in certain places in Switzerland is extremely getting high. It can be even 40% up from 6 to 10 years even.
